i am committed!

(healthy) food for finance is a column where we talk about how fitness and finance correlate with each other. join us on our journey to be both physically and financially fit.

I have to brag on my on my husband! He gets the husband of the century award!

My 1st trimester was a big carb-fest for me. It was the only thing I could keep in my belly that made me feel better. Poor Kyle started to gain a little weight.

So he decided to go to weight watchers to lose some pounds! (he only needed to lose 10-12 pounds) He was going to do it online (to learn the new system) but then we talked about asking my mom to go. She said yes. So every Thursday, Kyle and my mom went to WW.

I have not heard of a husband that would go to WW with their MIL!! It is unheard of. And everyone in their class loved that they came every week. He melted lots of hearts. They'd say "what a great SIL you are" to Kyle. He'd just smile!

On top of that, he went to the WW meeting that is held about 1/4th of a mile from my parents. He works 20 minutes south from my parent's house and we live another 20 minutes south of that. So basically after work, he'd head the opposite way to meet mom at WW, then have to drive 40 minutes home.

That is commitment! To me, my mom, and health! This is why I love Kyle! This is why he is going to be a great dad!

One lady asked my mom if Kyle was her husband! That made her day.
Then when mom 1st signed up, she told the lady "we are having a baby". Kyle said "no, not we....her daughter and I are having a baby!" Mom said "that is what I meant!"

In June, their WW group did a 5k.

Kyle is committed to my family! And to be fit!

This made me laugh! It made their website!

The walk!

They tailgated afterwards and everyone brought healthy snacks and shared recipes!

They went to the WW meetings for 3 months until Kyle met his goal weight (he lost 14 pounds). Mom lost 16 I think. She has not started back yet but I hope she does soon. She's lost her support person but she might have me after this baby gets here!  Kyle still weighs in every Thursday and calls my mom to share his weight. It is a lifestyle change!

yippie for hippies!

Sometimes, some of my friends call me granola. Sometimes I feel like a tree hugger. Someone told Kyle they see us living in mid-town with all the hipsters! I like it! Just because we recycle, grow our own food and now we're a compost owner, doesn't make us earthy. We just want to do our part and help out the earth and you know us....it saves us money! HA!

In May, we bought a compost.

See that duck tape on the right? Well, we bought this off the floor and saw a crack in it. Kyle asked and we got a discount because of the damaged goods (duck tape cures everything)! I researched and like this kind the best. Now we have our own dirt made out of our scrapes!

The garden: a 4 year plan

Every year, our garden doesn't do the best. Finally after 4 years, we decided to take our neighbor's advice and put newspaper down so that the weeds would not kill our harvest.

We put dirt on top of the newspaper. It worked GREAT! We had lots of results! Our tomatoes look like tomatoes!!! Just think how awesome our garden will be in 20 years! We'll be pros! I hate that I don't have a picture of our garden in full bloom! It was out of control! Next year we hope to have an even better garden with our homemade dirt!

Here is our recycle bin! I love it! I just wish the recycle would come one time a week and that the trash would come two times a month. We have more recycle than trash.

Next I'll use cloth diapers..no really I want to. But I want to get having a human to take care of in order 1st (breastfeeding-another hippie quaility!), then try it out. Ok, Ok, it is true...
You might be earthy if......

food for fiance: fit & pregnant

(healthy) food for finance is a column where we talk about how fitness and finance correlate with each other. join us on our journey to be both physically and financially fit.

I had it in my head that I would be the most fit pregnant girl in town. WRONG! I wanted to be like the pregnant girl that ran the marathon at almost 39 weeks pregnant. I had pretty high expectations for myself. I ran a marathon last December and it was not fun not being pregnant. I could not imagine doing one while pregnant! At any stage of pregnancy!

It was a hard pill for me to swallow. I had to slow down and listen to my body. I did jog some, up until about 30 weeks. I've also had to stay inside most the summer and work out. It was way to hot for me to walk./jog outside. Luckily my work has a gym we get to use so I walked on the treadmill and used the elliptical machine. I also did some weights. I did leg lounges one day with some dumb bells and I had no idea why I was so sore. Duh, I already had my "extra" weight on my body! I didn't need to add 30 more pounds!

I did my first 5k with my little man in May!

I was 22 weeks here and walked it with my friend Heather.

Heather is getting into walking so I told her I'd walk a 5k with her. Congrats Heather!

Here is my 5k time while in the gym at 28 weeks pregnant.
That time is so far from my personal best that I had last year around 28 minutes. I've told myself that as long I'm exercising, time is not what I need to focus on! I can't compare pregnant Angie to non-pregnant Angie.

I've struggled with my weight gain while being pregnant. At my 36 week check-up last week, I gained a total of 43 pounds!  Yet another hard pill for me to swallow. Every time I get on the scale I cringe. This is a whole new experience for me. In the books, average weight gain for a healthy person is 25-35 pounds. However, my doctor tells me I'm fine. He is not worried about me. He says I've got a lot of water weight and my body is storing food for breastfeeding. He basically called me a bear and that I'm getting ready for winter. Thanks doc!

This baby is making me do things I never thought I'd do-gain a bunch of weight and not run! I love him anyways though. So if you're struggling like me, it's ok! I'm here for you!

pregnancy perks

There are some perks to being pregnant.

At some stores, I get a front row parking spot!

....and that is the only thing I can think of now!

celeb sighting

My office moved downtown. I never really thought that I'd see any famous people. But back in the spring...I did!

Haley-Ulanda (peeking behind), me, and Steve Nash

We saw NBA star Steve Nash on our way back from getting ice cream. I was a little behind the times as I thought he still played for Dallas! oops! But what I am most proud of is that I knew who he was!! (and that he did play for Dallas!) I know my sports people! He was in town because the Suns were playing the Grizzles. My co-worker Ulanda is the one who noticed him. I am not that observant!

He was sitting with other tall men so I am sure there were other basketball stars at the table. It's easy to know the white guy! ha! He stuck out!

Wonder who I'll see next!

happy "expecting" mother's day

For Mother's Day, Kyle went to see his mom in Meridian and my mom and I went to Starkville for a little get-a-way at the McCoy game day house.

We relaxed and watched t.v. Then we went to the shops downtown and shopped, then got poured on! But it was still fun to show mom around the city that Kyle loves so very much.

Kyle came through Starkville on Mother's day and gave me this!
At this time, I was coming down from my carb high. So he got me an emergency Chick-fil-a gift for when I needed my fix.

I asked him "who told you to do this?" He was offended! I've gotten a Mother's Day card in the past from my pups so I took it back. He remembers special days and is a big planner! Knowing him, he got this 2 weeks before Mother's day! I love him!

Kyle brought Boomer by to see me! Kyle took Boom with him and I kept Bailey with me.

I was about 21 weeks here. Mom loves touching my belly. Just you watch, every picture she does the same thing!
Happy Mother's Day to all past, present, and future moms!

tying the knot

The same weekend as my reveal party and April's shower, my dear friend Cindy got married. It was the 1st Sunday in May is was in the 90s. It was HOT! And I was 20 weeks pregnant.

She had her wedding at the Levitt Shell. Such a fun place!

The dads! Ray and Kyle (Steph was barely prenant and I was one of the few that knew all about it!)

Lisa-Randi-me-half of Steph.

Randi told us to move to the stage. Here is a picture of all the people that found a seat under the shade trees!

Upgraded to the stage!

I loved that Cindy and Kyle (what an awesome name for a husband!) had boys and girls in their wedding party!

Cindy and Kyle waving at the hot crowd

During the wedding, Steph leaned over to me and said I can't take it anymore so we moved to the shade (mind you she was only about 8 weeks or so and no one knew-I was her excuse to move). Then I got hot in the shade and moved. Thankfully Randi came and got us and took us to the bridal suite that had AC! We were so happy!

Every pregnant girl's dream!!! An AC on a hot day!!! These 2 are preggers as well!

reveal party: It's a McBOY!

My goal is to get caught up on blogging before the baby gets here. I am just now in May. I think I have an unrealistic goal!

So, at the beginning of May, we had the 20 week ultra sound to find out the gender (and check on all of the baby's other parts).

On Thursday, we went to our appointment and told the tech we did not want to know the gender. After our visit, I called my friend Kristy and gave the phone to the tech. The tech told her it was a boy. Of course Kyle and I left the room and did not know! I made Kristy promise that she would not tell a soul! We all had to find out together. Kristy then called her cake friend and she whipped up an amazing cake. The party was the next night. AND...I had the results in an envelope. It sat on the table and I did not have the urge to peek!

Kyle and I were getting ready for the party and I asked what color he was wearing. He came out in a pink shirt so I wore blue. That way one of us would win! I really think he thought we were having a girl. I had a feeling it would be a boy.

It was such a cute BEE theme!

Kristy-the main hostess with the mostest!

She was the only one that knew of the BUZZ!

The cutest cake!

Cute decor!

Kyle calls this the power pic-the 3 most imporant women in his life!

April and Nathan-about to be newlyweds!

My parents-they are overjoyed. And that is an understatement.

Soon to be great aunts to a new baby! Aunt Rita and Aunt Connie

My friend Jen is an amazing cook. How cute is the baby fruit?!

Sloane and Greg

Everyone eating, waiting for the reveal.

Work friends-April and Jen

My family!

I will cut you!

Posing for the fake pictures. It's like our wedding day all over again!

Cutting.....

So..before Kyle and I saw the color of the cake, my mom shouted out "IT'S A BOY"! This picture is her in action! She is beyond excited.

boy!

I was in shock! Even though I had a hunch. All these things went through my head like I don't have to worry about drama but I do have to worry about football injuries. Ah....so much!!!!

I love this pic!

More of my mom super excited!

BOY

I brought the ultra sound to see. I thought it'd be a body shot showing either the part or non-part.

But then I realized they ZOOMED in on my poor boy's part! He was exposed! Kyle got his leg confused with his part! It.was.so.funny!

Proud parents!

everyone excited!

My MIL got me the cutest necklace!

OH BOY!

Sweet hug from mom. She is overjoyed!

The husbands hanging out.

Some of my great friends!-Cindy, Betsy, Shelly, Emily.

Cindy, Lisa, Steph (she was preggers too but not many knew...I did!) and me!

I won!

My exposed boy!

We got some prizes from Aunt Keke!

Such a fun night with family and friends. I can't wait to see what's in store for McBoy! YIKES!
